Transmembrane action potentials from smooth muscle in turtle arteries and veins.

چکیده
Transmembrane potential and active tension were measured in isolated segments of turtle aorta and inferior vena cava. Changes in tension were associated with action potentials, but the potentials had a different pattern in the two tissues. When the frequency of the action potentials increased, the contractions summated, resulting in a steadily maintained contraction.

• Microelectrode studies, which are difficult to perform on mammalian blood vessels, have provided a few records of action potentials from mammalian arteries' -' and veins. These studies indicated that epinephrine or sympathetic nerves could, at least on some occasions, induce action potentials in the smooth muscle cells. Two experiments had suggested that such electrical changes might play no ...

Introduction: We did this study because there were a few studies about aorto-branch junction. Methods: Four light microscope and electron microscope study, the abdominal aorta, renal artery, and the adjoining right and left renal arteries were dissected out from 4 neonate dogs. Results: Based on the results, there is only one cell type in the tunica intima of endothelium in both art...

Vascular smooth muscle (VSM) transmembrane potentials (Em) were measured in situ in small branch arteries (150-300-microns o.d.), small branch veins (300-400-microns o.d.), arterioles (90-150-microns o.d.), and venules (80-250-microns o.d.) in the mesenteric and gracilis muscle and the arterioles and venules of cremaster muscle vascular beds in anesthetized rats with reduced renal mass hyperten...
متن کاملGlycyrrhetinic derivatives inhibit hyperpolarization in endothelial cells of guinea pig and rat arteries.
Glycyrrhetinic acid (GA) derivatives have been used to implicate gap junctions in vasorelaxation attributed to endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF). The aim of this study was to assess whether GA compounds affect endothelial cell hyperpolarization. Membrane potentials were recorded from dye-identified endothelial and smooth muscle cells of guinea pig coronary and rat mesenteric art...
متن کاملElectrical Quiescence of Pulmonary Artery Smooth Muscle during Sympathomimetic Stimulation.
• Some recent reviewers 2 of the electrophysiology of smooth muscle have suggested that spike activity is normally a necessary prelude to excitation of the contractile mechanism. This conclusion has been based mainly on studies of tissues other than vascular muscle. Consistent with this view is the demonstration, by intracellular microelectrode technique, of induced or spontaneous muscle action...
